Launch of quality management tool for photographic reproduction

On 15 June 2012, Picturae, in collaboration with Delft University of Technology, will launch a quality management tool for photographic reproduction during the IS&T Archiving Conference 2012 in Copenhagen. This web service, which is aimed at every professional involved in image quality management, has been designed to ensure that the quality of images is guaranteed worldwide.

The tool

The Universal Test Target reader for photographic reproduction is designed to manage the consistency of any chosen quality. Anyone in the world can use the tool to upload a photo. By comparing the measured values against a selected quality norm it determines the quality of the image. In addition, the tool recognises the most important test targets and reads out the values objectively. Results can be linked to projects and sets of records and be exported to xml format.

How it all started

The tool was set up by professionals both from Picturae and TU Delft, with the help of contributions from colleagues and expertise from all over the world. It all stemmed from a general concern about guaranteeing image quality for digital reproduction.

The web service

On 15 June 2012, the beta version of the website will be live for a three-month test period. The reactions to the website will then be processed so that any improvements can be made.
