‘World Class Rapid Digitization of Cultural Heritage’

An Image Bank Full of Winners

World Press Photo (WPP) is world famous. They carefully select the very best photos by the best photographers each year, using strict criteria. These are photos that have changed the world, and that are viewed by millions of people. Picturae has developed an image bank for the valuable WPP collection.

The project

World Press Photo has built up an impressive photo collection over the years. In the past, photographers sent in slides or prints, but nowadays these have been replaced by digital images. Picturae has digitised the old photos for the WPP archive. We have scanned every winning picture from every year from 1955 onwards. With 1-on-1 quality control, the perfect image can be guaranteed.

World Press Photo

World Press Photo is run as an independent, non-profit organisation with its head office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where World Press Photo was founded in 1955. It is committed to supporting and advancing high standards in photo journalism and documentary photography worldwide. They strive to generate public interest in, and appreciation for, the work of photographers, and for the free exchange of information. Every year, World Press Photo organises the biggest, most prestigious photo contest in the world. It is the world's most important prize for news photographers.
