Scarlett Hooft Graafland

Whether Scarlett Hooft Graafland photographs a nearby landscape or a more exotic spot, she always succeeds in adding an element surprising us with an image we never saw before. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious – or both, but there is always a mild alienation.

Hooft Graafland (Netherlands, 1973) is not only a photographer, she is also a sculptor and performance artist. These are elements of her existence she developed during studies at the Royal Art Academy (KABK) in The Hague, the Belzalel Academie in Jerusalem and at the Parsons School of Design in New York.

Meanwhile she grew into an internationally acknowledged artist being represented amongst others by the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London. In 2011 Scarlett Hooft Graafland had a successful exhibition at the photography museum Huis Marseille in Amsterdam.
