The Straits Times highlighted the project in their article ‘Byte-size plants: Singapore Herbarium goes online’, where they explain how the Singapore Herbarium is digitizing about 800,000 specimens as part of its largest digitization effort to date. This makes the collections of the Gardens accessible to a global audience.
Speeding up digitization
Thanks to this approach, thousands of specimens are digitized every day. What was originally expected to take more than ten years can now be completed in just one year through the expertise and technology provided by Picturae. As a result, the impressive botanical collections of the Gardens become accessible worldwide for research, education and conservation. This digitization effort supports studies on biodiversity, climate change and food security.
