Naturalis and Picturae Digitise Thousands of Insects

Beginning next week, visitors to Naturalis will be able to see something unique in the museum: a gigantic installation that will photograph tiny insects in detail.

Our Entomology Conveyor Belt was located at Naturalis, where it digitized thousands of individual, pinned entomology specimens in a couple of months. Volunteers from Naturalis prick the animals one by one on a tray, which is then transported to the cameras on a conveyor belt. The equipment is able to digitize about 3,000 specimens a day.
